AML Investigator - (100% remote Worldwide - LATAM)

As an AML Investigator at Bitfinex, you conduct and adjudicate referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team, with the goal of timely SAR submission within applicable jurisdictions or closing referrals with reasoned argument. You report directly to the Head of Investigation Team with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer, working closely with Compliance, Customer Support, and peer AML Investigators to address fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks.

What you'll do

• Conduct assigned investigations to determine risk exposure to Bitfinex and mitigate risks through SAR filing, account closure recommendations, and fund freezing as applicable
• Provide investigative support to Customer Help Desk and Legal Team requests
• Communicate with customers, agents, and internal attorneys as needed
• Maintain and develop strong relationships and networks among peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and investigative techniques
• Continuously develop your skill sets in blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities, criminals' modus operandi, and best investigative practices to mitigate money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions risks

What you bring

• University education (preferred)
• Experience in an investigative function
• Experience using blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM, or Elliptic
• Demonstrated AML experience including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations, and SAR/STR reporting
• Basic knowledge of blockchain technology
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and confidence in making delegated decisions
