Backend Software Engineer Lead

As a Backend Software Engineer Lead at MB | Mercado Bitcoin, you lead the technical evolution of our Payment Platform. You combine hands-on technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and people development, with significant autonomy and responsibility for the choices that determine whether the platform scales safely or accumulates critical technical debt.

What you'll do

• Serve as the technical reference for your team: lead architectural decisions, document trade-offs in Architecture Decision Records, and maintain standards for quality, observability, and security
• Design and evolve the critical payment flows
• Bridge technology, product, compliance, and operations to ensure clear priorities and technical consistency across deliverables
• Develop your team technically and behaviorally through continuous feedback, individual development plans, seniority calibration, and succession planning
• Participate in incident response for a system that moves money: conduct blameless postmortems and drive corrective actions with clear owners and deadlines
• Engage with customers to define requirements and oversee integrations with our payment system

What you bring

• Solid experience as a subject matter expert in product teams, with real responsibility for architectural decisions
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems in production: messaging, eventual consistency, idempotency, delivery guarantees, and retry/DLQ strategies
• Experience building high-criticality transactional systems such as payments, banking, or trading, where errors carry direct financial consequences
• Strong expertise in API design, versioning, and third-party integrations
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams
• Experience with agile methodologies and end-to-end delivery tracking
