Head of Design, Product Design

As Head of Design at BitGo, you lead the design team while staying deeply hands-on with your own design work. You own the design system, shape product strategy alongside the Chief Product Officer, and drive the shift from a compliance-heavy platform to a design-led organization. This is a player-coach role: you start at roughly 50% hands-on individual contributor work, decreasing as the team scales, but the practice never stops.

What you'll do

• Own and ship your own design surfaces across discovery, Figma specification, design review, and execution, setting the quality bar the team follows.
• Invest in each designer's growth with candid, specific craft feedback and work that builds their capabilities to the next level.
• Amplify design's visibility and strategic impact across the company, representing the team in strategy, roadmap, and architecture conversations.
• Join product and engineering at discovery rather than handoff, shaping long-term roadmaps so the team builds toward a coherent direction instead of absorbing late changes.
• Own the design system and component library end to end: tokens, patterns, governance, contribution model, and adoption across product teams.
• Design systems, not screens. Shape how seven product areas with shared primitives (accounts, wallets, assets, entitlements, approvals) work together as a platform.
• Establish UX and systems thinking as a discipline the whole organization runs on, so product managers, engineers, and business leads frame problems in client terms and evaluate solutions against real needs.
• Establish the processes a small team needs to move fast without losing quality: critique, documentation, design review, and clean handoffs with engineering.
• Read technical design documents, understand engineering constraints, and decide where to compromise, where to hold, and where a broader change justifies the cost.
• Be the face of design internally and externally, representing BitGo to clients, partners, and candidates.

What you bring

• Proven experience leading design in financial services, with digital assets or another domain of genuinely complex technical flows strongly preferred.
• You have built and owned a design system at scale, not just used one.
• Hands-on mastery of Figma and a role model for craft. You are shipping design work today and can give specific, actionable feedback in critique.
• Deep UX expertise with strong product thinking, logical reasoning, and decisions grounded in data rather than taste.
• A track record of managing designers and making them better, caring about team health and growth, not only output.
• Technical literacy with comfort around APIs, data models, and engineering trade-offs.
• Direct communication skills. You can hold your position with a Chief Product Officer or engineering lead, and change your mind when the argument is better.
• You want the mandate. Turning a compliance-heavy platform into a design-led one excites you, not daunts you.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated environments such as broker-dealer, trust company, bank, or qualified custodian.
• Experience with complex permissioning, approval workflows, or multi-entity account structures.
• Design leadership at a company that went through the same shift you would lead here.

What we offer

• Base salary of $210,000 to $250,000 CAD, depending on leveling and location.
• Equity and an annual performance bonus.
