Java Backend Developer Specialist

Join Mercado Bitcoin's trading engine team as a Java Backend Developer Specialist. You will develop and maintain high-performance distributed systems that handle complex scenarios and critical environments where high performance, resilience, and low latency are fundamental.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain robust Java applications collaboratively and incrementally with other team members
• Design and operate high-availability distributed systems, focusing on resilience, low latency (sub-millisecond), and performance optimization in critical scenarios
• Handle complex distributed transaction scenarios, ensuring data integrity and consistency across multiple microservices
• Develop observability-oriented microservices, applying best practices for monitoring, failure anticipation, and proactive incident management
• Actively participate in technical refinements, plannings, reviews, and architecture decisions
• Write and maintain automated tests as part of your definition of done

What you bring

• Consolidated experience with Java (JDK 11 or later) and practical experience in message-based architectures
• Knowledge of ultra-high-performance or distributed messaging systems such as Aeron/Hydra, Apache Kafka, or similar
• Solid experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL
• Mastery of WebSockets, custom protocol design, and familiarity with financial market protocols such as FIX
• Experience with high-performance binary codecs such as SBE, Protobuf, or FlatBuffers
• Mastery of Gradle for build automation and solid experience with automated testing using Cucumber under the BDD approach
• Mastery of Docker for containerization and environment management, with ease working in a Linux environment
• Knowledge of observability, telemetry, and monitoring metrics including RPM/throughput, response time percentiles (50%, 95%, 99%), memory usage, CPU usage, and error rate
• Knowledge of OpenTelemetry and its paradigms including exporters, collectors, trace, span, and metric

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the financial domain including basic concepts of trading, order books, order types, fee models, and balance control rules
