Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – Issuance

As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) on the Issuance team at BVNK, you'll design and build the backend services powering stablecoin issuance for enterprises. You'll work on the full token lifecycle-from minting and burning to compliance controls like freeze, seize and pause-and connect on-chain smart contract operations to BVNK's wider platform. You work in small, autonomous squads, collaborate closely with Product, Design and other engineering domains, and push for simple, sustainable solutions that move fast.

What you'll do

• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs for stablecoin issuance, including mint and burn flows, supply management and token configuration
• Build compliance and control features that regulated issuers need, such as freeze and unfreeze, seizure into quarantine, pause and resume, and maker-checker approvals
• Integrate backend services with smart contracts on EVM-compatible networks, ensuring blockchain interactions are reliable, idempotent, observable and safe under failure
• Build event-driven services and signed webhooks that keep issuers, internal systems and ledgers in sync
• Ensure every issuance action has a complete, tamper-evident audit trail that reconciles accurately with downstream accounting systems
• Work with digital assets, ledger, identity and access, financial crime and security teams to deliver features end to end
• Contribute to architecture decisions, review code, mentor other engineers and champion engineering best practice within the squad
• Own your services in production, including monitoring, alerting, incident response and continuous improvement of reliability and performance

What you bring

• Strong, proven experience as a backend engineer building production systems, ideally in Java (Kotlin also welcome) with Spring Boot
• Hands-on experience designing microservices and event-driven architectures, ideally with Kafka or similar messaging platforms
• Experience building high-integrity transactional systems where correctness, idempotency, consistency and auditability are critical
• Experience designing clean, well-documented REST APIs and secure webhook integrations for external customers
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS), containerisation and CI/CD pipelines
• A solid grasp of secure coding practices, access control and role-based permissions in regulated environments
• Ownership mindset, clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving, collaborative environment
• The ability to use AI tools and agentic workflows to speed up delivery and improve quality

Nice to have

• Experience with EVM-compatible networks, ERC-20 tokens, smart contract interaction (e.g. Web3j, ethers.js) or Solidity
• Previous experience with stablecoin issuance, tokenisation, custody or wallet infrastructure
• Familiarity with sanctions screening, Travel Rule or other regulatory controls for digital assets
• Experience in payments, banking or other regulated financial services
