Staff Software Engineer, Brokerage Infra

As a Staff Software Engineer at Robinhood, you'll step into a high-visibility leadership role defining the technical vision for the Brokerage Infrastructure team. This team owns the platform's tier zero, mission-critical service responsible for all order processing, account management, and platform availability. You'll lead a team of 10+ engineers, drive modernization initiatives, and set the reliability bar across Robinhood's most critical infrastructure as it handles millions of transactions per second during high-volume market events.

What you'll do

• Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the platform, Robinhood's tier zero order processing and account management system
• Lead and develop a team of 10+ engineers at various levels, coaching and mentoring emerging leaders, setting a high technical bar, and fostering a culture of ownership and accountability
• Drive modernization initiatives including resolving core storage bottlenecks
• Own reliability and uptime KPIs, including SLOs for subsecond order latency, high availability, capacity planning, and rapid incident recovery during high-volume trading events
• Collaborate across infrastructure and product teams to enforce reliability standards and align on technical direction
• Proactively identify scalability and reliability risks, champion preventative solutions, and coordinate fast, effective incident response
• Shape hiring, onboarding, and the engineering culture as the platform continues to scale

What you bring

• 10+ years of professional engineering experience, with several years at the staff level and prior Team Lead experience
• Deep expertise with tier zero or mission-critical systems at significant scale (you have contributed to or maintained systems operating at millions to tens of millions of QPS)
• Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams of approximately 10+ engineers, including senior and staff-level individual contributors
• Experience leading architectural migrations or modernization efforts such as language rewrites, traffic routing simplification, or storage improvements
• A strong ownership mentality: you question scalability assumptions, enforce rigorous engineering processes, and think through edge cases others miss
• A track record of maintaining system correctness and reliability in high-accountability production environments such as financial order execution or account management
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and align across infrastructure and product organizations

• Base pay of $230,000-$270,000 USD (Menlo Park, CA; New York, NY; Bellevue, WA; Washington, DC), $203,000-$238,000 USD (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL), or $180,000-$211,000 USD (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL), plus bonus opportunities and equity
