
As a Lead Engineer in Cryptography and Blockchain at MITRE, you lead projects and R&D functions focused on cryptographic foundations applied to blockchain, distributed ledger technology, digital assets, cryptocurrency, and Web3 ecosystems. You work within the Cryptography, ICAM, and System Assurance department, a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and practitioners driving innovation in cryptography, system assurance, and identity and access management. Your work directly supports the Federal Government's mission to secure systems and software in critical infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Lead projects and R&D functions focused on cryptographic foundations as they apply to blockchain, distributed ledger technology, digital assets, cryptocurrency, and Web3 ecosystems
- Analyze Web3 market trends including DeFi and DAOs/Governance
- Develop thought leadership regarding emerging digital topics like crypto, DeFi, and fintech, and build networks through the organization and with partners
- Engage with Web3 market participants to help differentiate MITRE capabilities
- Lead efforts to determine vulnerabilities, threats, and risks that may compromise digital asset ecosystems
- Develop actionable frameworks and plans to safeguard digital asset ecosystems
- Serve as a digital assets subject matter expert leading trainings and educational sessions for internal teams and sponsors
What you bring
- 8+ years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree (or 5+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD)
- Demonstrated experience and passion in the cybersecurity aspects of Web3, digital assets, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and/or DAOs, with knowledge of market developments, relevant technology companies, and products
- Expertise in Web3 asset classes such as NFTs, smart contracts, and digital currencies
- Deep technical understanding of Web3 protocols and relevant cybersecurity concerns
- Demonstrable knowledge of the digital and cryptocurrency ecosystem, specifically expertise in topics like payments systems, DeFi, blockchain, Web 3.0, and open banking
- Demonstrable technical program or technical project management experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound technical judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results and collaborate across teams
- Ability to work effectively in secure and classified environments
Nice to have
- Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Broad exposure to cryptography and applied methods
- Knowledge of Internet and network engineering
- Experience applying cryptographic standards and guidelines in real-world deployed systems
- TS clearance eligibility
