As Principal of the Accounting Platform at BitGo, you own the product strategy for the financial and accounting systems that ensure every number BitGo ships (balances, fees, statements, journal entries, regulatory filings) is correct by construction. You work with finance, engineering, compliance, and audit to turn accounting and control requirements into scalable, auditable, self-service platform capabilities across multiple products, legal entities, and jurisdictions. Digital assets and on-chain activity make this harder and more interesting than traditional banking, and you will help establish the playbook for how custody structures, staking, tokenized assets, and settlement move through the systems correctly.

What you'll do

  • Define and deliver the financial data and accounting platform roadmap with shared capabilities that make financial data trustworthy by construction, including ledger and sub-ledger integrity, balance and activity reconciliation, fee and revenue calculation, client reporting, and feeds into the general ledger and financial close.
  • Partner with finance, internal audit, and external auditors to turn SOX and internal control requirements into product capabilities instead of manual procedures, owning requirements, planning, and delivery timelines aligned with the audit calendar.
  • Set the standards, interfaces, and data contracts that product teams build against, ensuring new products, asset types, legal entities, and acquisitions integrate into the platform rather than creating bespoke accounting workarounds.
  • Work with compliance, legal, and risk to ensure the platform supports regulatory reporting, books-and-records requirements, and examiner and auditor requests, running dated plans against external deadlines and flagging timeline risks early.
  • Reduce manual effort, elapsed time, and risk in month-end and quarter-end close, establishing metrics that show platform health: reconciliation breaks, close duration, audit adjustments, manual journal volume, and time to onboard new products.

What you bring

  • 9+ years of experience building or scaling systems, platforms, tooling, or control frameworks that multiple internal or external teams relied on, including 3+ years as the owner. This may come from product management, or from audit, controllership, or accounting systems work, with demonstrated ability to set strategy or standards that other teams adopted.
  • An accounting or finance foundation: a CPA or equivalent, an accounting degree, or hands-on experience in financial reporting, audit, controllership, or accounting systems. You can read a trial balance, follow a journal entry through a ledger, and discuss revenue recognition or reconciliation with a controller.
  • Experience building scalable platforms such as ledgers, billing, payments, reporting, data infrastructure, reconciliation tooling, or controls automation, thinking in data models, interfaces, and reuse. If you come from audit or accounting, this may include automating reconciliations, building controls into systems, or designing data models and tooling with engineers.
  • Professional experience in a regulated financial environment, working with auditors, examiners, SOX controls, or control programs, and understanding how public company obligations change product development and delivery.
  • Technical credibility with engineers: you can follow architecture discussions, pressure-test estimates, and write precise requirements for data-heavy systems. Familiarity with SQL and financial data pipelines is a plus.
  • Professional crypto or digital-asset experience. If you do not have professional experience, passion projects with breadth and depth across digital assets could be a good fit.
  • A writing-first approach: your default work products are clear specs, data flow maps, and decision documents.

What we offer

  • Base salary of $230,000 to $260,000 USD, depending on leveling and location
  • Equity and annual performance bonus
  • 100% company-paid health insurance for employee, partner, and dependents
  • Up to 4% 401(k) company match
  • Paid parental leave and paid vacation
  • Free commuter and parking pass
  • Free custom lunches and snacks
  • Computer equipment and workplace furniture to suit your needs
  • Full-time onsite work at the New York, NY office
